Foreign ministers from France, the UK, Germany, and the EU’s foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas held talks in Geneva ahead of a scheduled meeting with Iran’s Foreign Affairs Minister Abbas Araghchi. They have put forward their diplomatic initiative, which does not include the US, as a last-ditch effort to avoid further escalation of the Israel-Iran air war through negotiations. “We, Europeans, are engaging in dialogue with Iran to de-escalate the situation,” French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said on X. “The only possible way forward is dialogue.”
