Ethiopian forces fought overnight to prevent Tigray rebels from entering the Afar town of Abala, amid reports of heavy clashes and a telecommunications blackout in northern Ethiopia. Fighting was also reported in Amhara’s North Wollo zone. Analysts say the Tigray People’s Liberation Front may be seeking to reopen routes toward Addis Ababa while disrupting supplies from Djibouti.
