Addis Ababa: On July 26, Regional forces in southeast Ethiopia killed 85 al Shabaab militiamen during border clashes. Forces from Ethiopia’s Somali region also wounded and captured myriad of insurgents in the Ferfer district near the border with Somalia. The fighting added to the security headaches for Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed as he tried to quash an insurgency in Oromiya region and pacified disgruntled paramilitary groups in Amhara region. He also started peace negotiations with the rebellious northern region of Tigray.
