
A powerful El Niño weather pattern could contribute to hundreds of thousands of additional heat-related deaths worldwide through February, according to projections by the Climate Impact Lab. Developing countries are expected to face the greatest burden, particularly across Africa and parts of Asia. Researchers estimate global land temperatures could rise significantly above normal, increasing the number of extremely hot days.
