Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty departed Cairo for Doha today to meet with senior Qatari officials, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said. The visit comes amid heightened tensions following an Israeli air strike on Qatar’s capital this week, an attack that targeted senior Hamas leaders. Mr Abdelatty’s visit intends to express Egypt’s solidarity with Qatar and his talks are expected to address co-ordinating a response to escalating Israeli aggression in the region, the ministry said. The strike, which killed a Qatari security officer and several people affiliated with Hamas, has drawn widespread international condemnation, with concerns it could undermine Gaza ceasefire negotiations.
