Despite the passage of law requiring the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is unsure whether EVMs would be used in the upcoming elections.

During a meeting of the members of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Law and Justice, chaired by PTI MNA Riaz Fatyana, the ECP made this observation.

ECP Secretary Omar Hamid Khan told MPs that it took India 20 years and Brazil 22 years to begin utilising these devices, and that it will take them “a while” to get them up and running.
