Dozens of Israeli air strikes hit Damascus and its surroundings overnight on Tuesday, as Israel expanded its invasion of southern Syria. The National’s correspondent reported hearing strikes throughout the night, culminating in a heavy bombardment at dawn on Tuesday. Residents of the capital expressed widespread confusion on Tuesday morning as the city stirred after hours of strikes on the outskirts. It was not yet apparent why bombs fell there and whether there were casualties.
