A reporter working for The National heard a loud explosion in the suburbs of Beirut during the funeral for several of the 12 people killed in the pager attack. The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear. Some children were crying that someone’s hands had been blown off by a device. An elderly woman crumpled on the ground, crying and asking no one in particular, “Why is this happening?” Afterward, the funerals for the four people killed in the pager explosions continued as planned.
