According to individuals familiar with the situation, some Pakistani negotiators convinced the government that accepting a controversial draft of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reform bill would result in the revival of the delayed International Monetary Fund program.
They further claimed that the then-finance secretary was prohibited from emphasizing the proposed terms before the federal cabinet during the bill’s approval in March 2021.
