The Bab el-Mandeb Strait, linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden, remains a vital global shipping route amid regional tensions. Known as the “Gate of Tears”, it separates Yemen from Djibouti and Eritrea. The narrow waterway carries oil tankers and cargo vessels travelling between Asia and Europe, with the Suez Canal significantly shortening their maritime journeys.
