The situation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank remains “volatile”, says Ramiz Alakbarov, deputy special coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and UN resident and humanitarian coordinator. He stressed that the US-brokered “ceasefire” agreed to in October must be respected. “The legitimate needs, concerns and aspirations of the people of Gaza must be addressed through the full implementation of [that resolution],” Alakbarov told the UN Security Council.
