Yariv Oppenheimer, member of Israel’s Democrats party, stated that agreement with Lebanon was perceived as a success for PM Netanyahu and his govt, as it allows Israel to remain in Lebanon beyond internationally recognised borders. “The deadline for Netanyahu to remain in Lebanon will be election,” Oppenheimer said, referring to legislative vote scheduled for October. The prime minister has sought to avoid withdrawing from Lebanon before the election as this would be perceived as an “humiliation.”
