The ‘controversial’ Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Law 2025 has been challenged in Supreme Court of Pakistan. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court (SC) by a citizen, arguing that the recent amendments violate fundamental human rights and are inconsistent with the Constitution. The petition specifically maintained that certain provisions of PECA undermine the basic right to freedom of expression. It urged the top court to review these provisions and assess their compatibility with human rights. The petitioner has named the President, Speaker of the National Assembly, Chairman of the Senate, and Secretary of Law as respondents in the case.
