The US Senate has blocked a bill to sanction the International Criminal Court (ICC) for its arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defence minister over the carnage in besieged Gaza. The chamber voted 54-45 in favour of the bill on Tuesday, meaning the measure, which had already passed the Republican-majority House of Representatives, could not get the 60 “yes” votes needed in the 100-member Senate to advance.
