Former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi died at the age of 86. He had been suffering from leukaemia and was recently treated for a lung infection. His Mediaset television network announced his death on Monday with a smiling photo of him on its homepage and the headline: “Berlusconi is dead.”
