Iran’s Foreign Ministry says it is preserving its right to self-defence but would like to invite international institutions, including the UN Security Council, to the table for mediation. Its statement also keeps the door open for mediation under international institutions, but it says that as long as the US continues to attack Iranian vessels and oil tankers, it will continue to target US assets. Shortly after the Foreign Ministry statement, Iran’s IRGC said the maritime restricted area would extend from Chabahar in Iran into parts of the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
