Colombo: On Oct 21, Sri Lanka’s parliament passed a constitutional amendment aimed at trimming presidential powers. The amendment would also beef up anti-corruption safeguards and help to find a way out of the country’s worst financial crisis since independence. “This amendment will not only help bring about the system change demanded by Sri Lankans it will also help in securing an IMF program and other international assistance to rebuild the economy,” Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe told parliament.
