Gaza’s so-called safe zone of Al Mawasi was hit by several Israeli missiles overnight, killing at least 40, injuring 60 and creating huge craters into which tents and whole families have reportedly disappeared. Civil defence teams said the missiles created nine-metre deep craters in the sand, which can be seen in images of the scene. The Israeli army has repeatedly called on civilians to seek shelter in Al Mawasi during its operations elsewhere in the enclave.
