The killing of Hamas’s political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran may lead to “a wide regional war”, a senior official in the group warned. Mr Haniyeh and his bodyguard were killed in a raid on his residence in the Iranian capital, the militant group has confirmed, blaming Israel for the attack. “Israel carried out this assassination in order to pressure us to make it submit to its conditions in the negotiations” to stop the war in Gaza,” Hamas official Mahmoud Taha stated.
