On Thursday, a Varanasi court ordered that the survey of the Gyanvapi mosque be completed and a report submitted by May 17. The order came a day after a petition calling for the removal of the court-appointed Advocate Commissioner in charge of the survey.

“The court has directed to undertake a comprehensive survey and provide a detailed report on May 17 for the next hearing of the matter,” said Subhash Nandan Chatterjee, one of the petitioners’ lawyers. The court ordered the district administration not to postpone the survey under any circumstances.
