Israel’s military said that it had surrounded Gaza city, dividing the enclave in two. “Today there is north Gaza and south Gaza,” Admiral Daniel Hagari said. He called it a “significant stage” in Israel’s war against the Hamas militant group. Israeli media reported troops were expected to enter Gaza city within 48 hours.
