Following the announcement on Friday, October 29th, that Facebook’s parent corporation will be renamed “Meta,” the dystopian science fiction series, ‘Black Mirror,’ is trending online, as people compare how the show is coming to reality.

At a recent Connect event, Facebook unveiled its vision of the metaverse, which aims to merge augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies together in the actual world. People who recognized this scenario recalled the second episode of The Black Mirror, ‘Fifteen Million Merits,’ in which they present a world where they are living in identical conditions.
