Kyiv/Moscow: On March 1, it was reported that a huge Russian armoured column bore down on Kyiv. The brutal shelling of civilian areas in Ukraine’s second largest city lifted fears that frustrated Russian commanders could turn to more devastating tactics. After nearly a week since Moscow launched war on its neighbour, it had flunked to capture a single major Ukrainian city after running into unexpectedly vicious defiance.
