Chris Columbus was asked about his experience in working with young Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grant. He said that the three leads in the first film had little professional experience between them, that’s why there were so many cuts in that movie.

All of the youngsters were so happy to be a part of the “Harry Potter” film that they were practically just smiling into the cameras for the first couple of weeks. He couldn’t get them to stop smiling, so it turned into a director’s exercise and acting class. They were able to perform tracking shots by the second film, and the kids could shoot a master and have a conversation within those shots.
