Doubt cast on Bessent’s claim that EU has joined US economic campaign against Iran

Reports suggest that the European Union has only endorsed Washington’s economic campaign against Iran and is yet to officially join, despite the US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent saying it already has. “The EU welcomes efforts at ensuring that Iran ceases its destabilising activities and engages in peace negotiations with good faith, also through additional economic pressure, including through the US led Operation Economic Outcast,” said a statement on Monday. Bessent thanked the EU for joining the economic campaign, saying that the world was “sending a clear message to Iran”.
