Hague Ruling Strengthens Pakistan’s Water Rights Case

The Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague has rejected India’s unilateral withdrawal from the Indus Waters Treaty, calling its stated grounds insufficient to justify suspension or termination. India has dismissed the ruling, saying it does not recognise the court. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed that water must not be weaponised and treaties governing shared waters must be respected. The verdict strengthens Pakistan’s legal position and adds pressure on India to honour the treaty.
