Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati has insisted his government is ready to implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 in a bid to secure a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel. Under UNSC 1701, which created a buffer zone to resolve the 2006 war in Lebanon, Hezbollah would withdraw north of the Litani River. Speaking after a cabinet meeting, Mr Mikati said that “Hezbollah, which is part of the government, has approved these decisions”, pointing to the fact that two members of the cabinet are members of the party.
