Hisham al-Omeisy, a political and conflict analyst focusing on Yemen, stated that al-Zubaidi feared that if he went to Saudi Arabia for the talks, he would be “cornered” and possibly “imprisoned”, adding that he was trying to delay his departure until “he organises his troops on the ground”. “That was a political suicide because by doing that, he basically indicated that he is going to be leading an insurgency inside the country, which basically led the PLC to issue a decree ousting him,” he added.
